    Fripperies

    frip·per·y
    /ˈfrip(ə)rē
    noun
    plural fripperies

A frivolous thing, silly or unnecessary, and only done or worn for pleasure.

syn. trinket, bauble, knickknack, gewgaw, gimcrack, bibelot, furbelow, novelty, curiosity, gimmick, trifle, bagatelle

When we lived on the farm I used to carry wire cutters in my pocket lest Stella, our dog ever get caught in a coyote snare (happened once. thankfully she stopped immediately and waited for me to find her. I started carrying them the next day.) A roll of wreath wire found its way in there too and as we went on our daily walk I'd make things: crosses or Xs (depends on your POV!), wild bouquets, stick mobiles, attaching them to trees around the property.

Often I'd come home with interesting bits of wood or sticks, little rocks, bits of woodland detritus in my pockets and I started making little fripperies... to hang, to wear, to decorate.

As time went on I started to incorporate metal bits, stamped words into these pieces and after learning how to make chain with steel wire? Well, it kinda got out of hand from there. And sometimes I make things for sale.
